Well hopefully Thailand will organise the next AYF, as they are taking up secretariat post next year. As for me, well AYF is better experienced as a participant so maybe I would join the next edition.

As SHINE, well due to my trips, was not able to contribute as much as possible. But within the short time I was with them, it was a good experience. Learnt a lot about individuals in ways that I could not imagine. I am definitely gonna miss Si Hui, Hui Yi, Ai Wei & most importantly Yong Chuan with all his rumours and stuff. Haha.

Well to Samantha & Kok Hwee & Shawn, it has been great working with you for the past three years. Who knows, I may come back to SHINE as a sai-kang warrior. Haha.

Shining (dimly?) Again For The Third Time..

Well back in the same spot again trying to plan something out for the SHINE Youth Festival. Feels all so new this time around even though it is my third time. But I guess it is the ironic weirdness that I am the oldest among the panellists in terms of experience in SHINE. Especially when I still feel that I am not there yet and still growing and learning more about the youth scene. The good thing this time though is there is wayyy much better individuals in the panel than me. Example 1 : Si Hui. I mean she is like THE star of shine from last year.

Then you got example 2 in the form of shu li. he is like the alter ego of me. hard-working. passionate. and freaking smart, which trust me I'm no way there.

then finally you've got example 3 that is joel, who is doing (or is it leading?) the chingay thing for heartware network. which is a huge job, that if i took it, would practically screw it up big time.

So i'm currently contemplating about my life again, seeing how it is going so far, especially with the JAE posting results coming out in less than 24 hours. I sincerely hope I make it to the course I want to go to. Shrugs.

I am trying to switch from typing to vlog-ing. So you may seem some of the videos popping up in here soon. Hopefully you don't get traumatised by my voice. Heh.

It has been quite a while since I actually posted something in here. Life's been sooo super hectic and honestly I have no idea where the h*** I am heading. Meeting new people left and right and gaining new experiences and learning lessons. But with the chaos and the exams coming right, I think I am slowly losing myself as a whole. Everyday has been like me floating around and smiling and going for meetings and studying and freaking out for exams that I honestly feel like a ghost. My future right now is soooo cloudy. I have no idea what to expect next year and seriously, I am very nervous and uber stressed up.

Well one guy who got it going for him (and hopefully I can end up like him), is Xu Hong. Met him during the intership with ECO Singapore. He is an uber funny guy. The kind of person who seems very innocent and all but has a very *dark* interior. Heh. Well he is currently in Sweden, (interning with some company. I think.) (aka. hanging out with the ladies) as part of a stint with a company. Working with him was one of the most memorable events of my life and one thing i have learnt from him, is that you can be efficient without getting worked up and never judge people quickly. I defo gonna miss him and his quirky jokes. Aye.

So to send him off, Wilson (the boss), Ryal (the boss' friend) and the lowly intern minions went to Jumbo restaurant to have a dinner.

As you can see, I ended up taking a lot of shots of the dude and none of me as I was busy gorging on the food and busy saying thank you to the nice waitress who kept on pouring more chinese tea. Ended up finishing up like 16.5 cups of chinese tea within 2 hours until the tea in the pot became transparent.

Well after that, we quickly jumped into Ryal's jeep (yes. JEEP), and rushed all the way to Queenstown to drop Xu Hong. The ride was some freaky s***. Must get such a vehicle for myself for sure. Felt like some commando tact team rushing into some emergency.

So to Xu Hong, good luck man. As for me, Exams Less Than A Month AWAY!!!

I Dared To Be A Youth Challenger.

It has been almost 4 months in Youth Challenge already for me and I have to admit that it has been quite an enriching yet testing time for me. I joined right after the saga, and if you haven't heard about it , you either must have been out of Singapore or stuck on a deserted island with 19 others. Heh.

Shall not digress but honestly it has been a somewhat crazy experience. I met really cool people who have now become close friends such as Ruby, Siti, Madina, Aiks, Farah and the rest to name a few. Some have really become close acquaintances like Ying Shi and Christine. What I am trying to bring at is that no matter what happens in an organisation, what matters most is the people in it and their commitment. No matter how much money you or how popular you can be, as long you have the passion, purpose and drive to go on, you can do anything you want.

I forsee still lots of obstacles such as trying to recruit people and showing YC in a good light to the public. But I know I can do it with the help of the rest. Hopefully. Haha.

I am currently trying to plan up new long term programmes with Siti and Mad. So it is quite terrorising to do so much proposals and research and everything. Especially when you have to use all the big words in the proposals to highlight certain points. And now I am part of the works to organise a conference, which I believe is very important especially in the current direction set up by the new Executive Director, Ms. Hong, who is an awesome lady. She is easily approachable and very friendly, which really surprised me and made me a huge fan of hers on the very first day.

Well all I can see, we have still a huge thing to tackle which is the trying to sustain the volunteers. So if you want a challenge and are very passionate about the youth scene, why not do something worthwhile? Haha.

An Uber Cheap Version Of Mac's

On a fateful rainy day on the 21st July 2007, a couple of youth barraged into a innocent home filled with innocent elderly people. They were caught unaware by the sight of these juveniles carrying bags of weapons of mass dinner distribution. The teenage delinquents, as judged by the public, bonded with their fellow feline conspirators and used lettuce and burger patties as a form of negotiation with the elderly. Needless to say, experience trumped in the end and the elderly were able to sieve through all the burgers and didnt fall for it. The youths left the home feeling sad, down but ready with experience to plot their next move.

Look out for these youths in your neighbourhood. You can join them in their crusade against poorly prepared food for the elderly by just signing up with these reporter who is a fellow comrade of the cause.

This comrade is proud to say that he is proud to have fried 40 burger patties. So what are you waiting for? Join The Cause!

Finally, this guy is blogging after a much much long hiatus. A lot of stuff has happened since the last time I have actually typed something into this site. Met lotsa new friends and started to discover myself in a newer light. It has been a pretty emotional week for me, in a good sense. Everything that I went through, all the s*** and hardships for the past few months have finally ended with a good ending. Starting with SHINEmobil to my relationship with my parents and friends, things have been going smoothly so far. I wish that it would be the same with my O's at the end of this year. I am getting really nervous about them though. Argh.

When I sit in my chair and think about the past, maybe it was good that the bad stuff happened and let me tide through them and learn more about myself and my limits. I do not want to sound emo but I am actually glad that I was in huge load of [fudge] last year. Heh.

Tonight is the launch of the new me. And the new me is very lazy to blog for the rest of the past events that happened. So I am just gonna load up this site with pictures and videos.

Well, it is 4.34am and Jack & Danielle have just been evicted, leaving the final 4. So I was looking through the archives again during the ad-break and came across a post by my former Temasek schoolmate, Shou Yu. It always crack me up for no apparent reason.

Ok... This is what it is about. Shou Yu, me and 4 others went for the Yellow Ribbon Walk last year and we had a pretty crazy day because of how people around us behaved and how we reacted to it.

Note : I was known as Kumy. Heh. & Nemesis was this other girl he had a major fight with. That's another story.

I had the Yellow Ribbon Walk today - a total of 3.5km. (It's really short, PE training is 3.2km - Kumy). The group I went with, consisted of Nemesis & Christal - I do not plan to think another abbreviation or short-form to replace my nemesis's name.

While Kumy waited for Nemesis, Christal & I, along with four others, took Grace's car. Surprisingly, I was rather comfortable with my position but I am certain the others were not as satisfied with their space as me.

While Kumy called me on the phone (Ummm... I can't get it - laughs followed), we were reaching the starting point. After we managed to get our entire group (Yes! I had said near the stage and under the starting point, not under the stage and near the starting point)

At first it was a S-T-R-O-L-L, and yes Kumy & I do stroll very fast. Apparently, Nemesis was not convinced and she kept asking us to stroll. Being obessed with dogs, she went up to one and patted it - the owner was apparently surprised. After that, Kumy & I told her gravely never to touch a dog without its owner's permission.

My queue at the toilet did not reduce and I simply gave us, costing us valuable time (I think). Kumy & I decided to "stroll" and not to slow down for them *smirk*. Until a quarter of the way, Kumy & I realised there were goodies bags (as usual while stocks last). We decided to quicken our pace and we overtook estimated 200 to 300 people.

When we were more than halfway there, this girl and her younger sister (both primary school) overtook us. I was pretty much fine with it, but Kumy here (track-and-field person) refused to let them overtake us. So we ran past and we slacken our pace.

We thought they would not chase up again, how wrong we were. This followed by a series of us catching up with them and they catching up with us. In the end, she won us by a bit (her younger sister a long way behind us I think) and Kumy refused to face reality. We got our goody bags, tied yellow ribbon around fake potted plants, took a group photo to be imprinted on badges (I am really not photogenic)."

We sure had fun times, eh dude?

Reminiscing About The A.S.S.

It is like 2.30am now and I am like in the most hyped mood right now. There is still 1.5 more hours to go before the finale of Celebrity Big Brother UK, so I have no desire to knock off now. It has been an interesting weekend so far. I got back in touch with 2 Andersonians so far out of nowhere. One of them is a somewhat well-known blogger now (ironically; but cool) and the other had a friend who got into Round 1's top 11 (small world, huh.)

Therefore I decided to skim through my photo archives and my video logs to bring you back to the years of 2003 and 2004. Haha. Yeah Pamela, I finally gonna upload your 'crossdressing' photo.

Well this photo certainly brings a lot of memories. I may have forgotten like almost half of the names of this class. But I will never forget the antics they pulled, the scandals, the fun times we had, the hamsters that lived in there. It was a pretty sad day when I had to leave you guys after only being a peer leader for one year.

But I'm happy with the aftermath, for e.g. some of you entering council and making a difference and staying true to yourselves. I doubt any of you would be reading this but if you are, I want to say that you guys made a huge impact on my life and how it has shaped so far.

To Sheryl, I have no idea what you are doing now but you will always be my one mei-mei. To Stella, Hui Min, Pak, Yi Min, Chairman, and the rest, rock on and good luck for your final year.

Next up on my recollections is a photo of the Anderson Student Council Newbies of 2003...

Wow. A lot of stuff certainly happened, eh guys? Well, these bunch of guys were pretty alright. Some I love a lot and some I loved to hate. Yeah, it was that polarizing. I could not say that I was quite close with them during my tenure cause in all honesty, there were cliques here and there. Sometimes it even got a lil hypocritical. I have to admit that I did not do my duties well to my maximum potential cause I considered my fellow schoolmates as the same level as I am (meaning : as students) and could not look at them as "non-councillors". This point-of-view did take some flack from the seniors and co-councillors and some praise from the Abel Bunch. But in my heart, what I did was right and I cannot change that.

Now you may think this is just a poster of some weird Jap word, but this was (and probably is) the best team or group I have ever been in my life. JINCA is a word consisting of the first letter of each member's name.

J was for Jia Jin (became a councillor then went on to TJC), I for Izyan (same case as Jia Jin), N was for Nurul Huda (became a councillor too. and a great Andersonian) C was for Cai Shan (did not become a councillor. i think. But definitely dared to follow her interests and not others) and A was for Anuja (same as Cai Shan).

These guys were last on day 1 of the Council Newbie Camp in 2004 and then rose to fight on for the best enthu team the next day. [I got best *something* btw. Heh. Ok Ok. Shouldnt digress]. What is different about this team was that no matter what happened, they never gave up and always smiled on. At that point of time, I was very competitive and very manipulative. But after that two days with the them and subsequent months with these five individuals, I learnt that winning is not everything. It is the knowledge and the experience that counts. That is what that matters most in one's life. So yeah... JINCA forever...

Well before I officially left Anderson Sec, Mr Ismail (best Geog teacher ever for all the good and bad reasons) announced that there was an environmental competition and as usual, no one wanted to take part, so Ling Yan, Kai Jie and me (we were the only ones interested in saving the environment. yeah we were thattt geeky. heh.) took part and we basically did a hell of a good job. We won second simply because the dratted RGS team did a project that was featured on Kids' Central. Urgh.

But what is memorable about this competition is that it cultivated a sense of needing to do something more in my heart, you know the one where we want to save the world (cheesy. i know). This was where I signed up for Green Volunteers Network and I am glad and proud to say that I am still with them helping to do my part for nature.

And finally last but not least, the times I shared with 1/2 and 2/2 (minus Abel)...

It was a weird journey with these guys and gals. The fights I had with Abel & Wilbur, the comedy routines with Nimisha, Atiqah, Syafiqin & Shahida, the Survivor discussions with Christine, the study sessions with Ian, the sibling bond with Xue Ling and the close friendships and unfortunately bad enemies that I formed in there have been embedded in me.

It was sad and ironic that almost 25% of the class left the school in pursuit of the Integrated Programme, but I think that in hindsight, it was a good move or else we (as in the rest of you guys) might not still have the bond that we have today. On my part, I was not part of the bonding process because of various stuff and I have to say that my complacency has bitten me hard in the butt.

I wish I could go back and change some of the way I behaved and reacted to certain occasions. I think I was the kind of person that sometimes you can get along so well and be good friends and the next day be total enemies that you just love to hate. Therefore, I wasnt part of any clique and did not form any brotherhood like Jerome, Adil, Ananda and the rest or carve a niche for myself like being intellectual like Dhevy and Oi Man or being outstanding in literature like Kellynn and G3 or being totally anti-Anderson and still be cool like Pamela, Abel and Mavis. I was just 'there', roaming around like a social butterfly flying here and there filling up the space that people left for random stuff to enter.

But I cannot blame anyone but myself for that. I may say that I do not have any regrets but if I was given a chance to go back to change some aspects of my life, I would jump into it without a second thought.

Two years after I left the school, things have definitely changed. People have changed. Teachers have changed. Heck, even my classroom was broken apart for renovation. I am not in a hurry to rekindle friendships now. But the idea is up in the air for sure.

Will I be the same Kumaran as before? Yeah.

Will I be able to connect back with the rest? Maybe.

But will I forget the past? Definitely no.

That may sound totally negative but sometimes you can change yourself but you can never change or mold the experiences. Ever.

100 Chairs, 100 Youth Artists, 100 Channels of Blessings, 100% Visual Experience

100 Chairs transformed into works of art by 100 youths will be up for auction starting 3 February 2007, 2pm at *scape Youth Park.

Fully run and led by youth with the support of Young Changemakers and *scape, the 100 Chairs project kicked off on 21 January 2007, with one hundred youth artists gathering to create one hundred collectible pieces of art from one hundred wooden chairs.

Twenty of these art pieces have been selected to give the public the opportunity to bid for them on Saturday. The rest of the pieces will be displayed at the *scape Youth Park while the bidding continues online. As part of the celebration, a day of exciting performances by youth groups and bands has been planned.

There are also prizes to be won via our 'Star Search' contest. You are invited to send in MMS of ANY star shape or asterisk that you can find to a number that will be revealed on 3 February 2007.

It has been an uber long time since I last blogged. So long that my previous blog was hacked. Urgh. Then I found out about this blogging contest and decided to give it a try. The odds against are like humongous, but just give it a shot no matter what.

...and I shall call it the first 7 days in the seventeenth year of existence.

Now you may ask like how in the world does that connect with the Youth.SG theme... & my answer is that I have no clue either. It is just that this past 7 days have been a roller coaster ride. Up and down... Births and deaths... Gaining and losing... Get the picture yet?

Well I am @ Youth.SG cause...

(a) I am Youth. Duh.

(b) I am a tech-geek. Without electricity, I would literally go bonkers.

(c) I surf the Youth.SG portal everyday for an average of two hours. (yeah... it is thattt bad.)

Now on to my first 12 days of my seventeenth year of existence... The title is long so I shall rename it as (1ST12Do7).

Day 01 : 12th Jan 2007

My Birthday! and my last day of work at MCYS. It was a bittersweet affair with all the celebrations and all. It started off at 12mn where my uncles and aunts and family decided to just celebrate it with a small chocolate cake. It was so rich with chocolate that I could only manage one bite.

By the time they left and cleared up, I myself was so tired and needed to plonk onto my bed. Then Kyle, Sharon, and the rest of the gang called and decided to bother me with the somewhat ok birthday song. Heh. Thanks for the surfboard, guys.

Christine and Atiqah was there already (with Melvin, Rachel & Nicole away cause of the makeover contest). I found out that it was healthy lifestyle day so everyone (except me of course) were wearing casual clothes. As part of the healthy lifestyle day, the plan was to go to Hong Lim Food Centre and then on to some mindgame centre, which name I forgot. I got to admit that I was kind of confused with the link between Junk Food & Healthy Lifestyle though...

So after me staying true to my label of being 'the one whom no one can study or work with', I disturbed Christine & Atiqah before going down to Hong Lim with Debbie, and the rest of the Youth Division.

The ride was eventful, with some of the roads already partially flooded and the cab driver was going one big round from Thomson to Novena to Newton to god.knows.where. then to Chinatown. Meanwhile, the 3 'Charlie's Angels' forbid me to take any photos of them in the ride. Once at the food centre, we found the seats and both me & Debbie decided to try some Fried Kway Teow. Apparently, one of the customs is that the store lady asks for your table number. But being the dumbo me, I thought she was asking for my number when she asked 'what's your number?' with a smile. For a while, it got me stunned with Debbie shooting WTF!? glances at me from behind. Then realising her husband was nearby shooting a deathly stare at me, I decided to hurry the order as fast as possible.

After taking photos with everyone, it was then my turn with Pak Sin. But being the nice boss he is, he dared me to take a photo with the Ketupat lady before taking one with him.

The rest left for their game at the cafe, while both me and Debbie left for MCYS. We talked about the political system in Australia, about Hanson and the Labour Party and how screwed up it is, sometimes. Oh wells. Back at the office, I decided to clear my webmail one final time and take photos with the rest. I thought it would be simple and could be done quickly. But I gotta say, I almost cried a lil bit. It was like leaving a close-knit family, eventhough I only spent a month with them.

Rachel (The Most Funky & Possibly Most Good-looking Journalist I've met. :P), Nicole (My Project Superstar source and co-forum poster), The lady sitting beside Alvin (Always smiling and cheering me up.), hope I will meet you guys soon and I have learnt a lot from you within the short period of time. And lots of thanks to Alvin... Man, you are my inspiration. Aspire to be like you one day.

Next up, was to go back to my now-former school, Temasek Academy. Urgh.

It was very weird entering the school, especially with everything that happened last year. Memories of the lessons, the canteen, the friends, the enemies, and the times I spent with Pri. all came flooding back. It may or may not have been a good idea to leave the school in pursuit of a different environment and lifestyle. But I got no regrets.

After fooling around with Johnny & Co., left for the customary visit to the temple and then off to Zouk & MOS with my friends. No photos of that though cause my dratted camera did not work (another reason why I need a new camera).

Days 02 & 03 : 13th & 14th January 2007

The thirteenth was somewhat alright for me. Had a meeting with the 100 Chairs & *scape committee at the newly renovated NYC, now renamed *scape Youth Centre. The 100 Chairs is an event where artists paint chairs, and the public and organisations bid on them, where all profits goes to charity. It is a great event to take part and met a lot of new people on board the team. I love volunteering and it is a pretty meaningful thing to do especially when you are a youth. You learn new stuff and gain new friends at the same time. Haha. Shameless plugging, I know.

There was also an art exhibition going on at lobby called BLACKBOX. The exhibits were really awesome, where artists used graffiti as a form of visual art.

After that, left for another bout of clubbing where Rachel A., Stacy, Hui Fen and Olivia decided to play in the rain at 2am in the morning, making me have a cold.

^COLD. BRRR.^

Woke up at 3pm cause of the previous night. The house was already noisy preparing for one of the many Indian festivals the next day. Decided to switch on the television and watch The Office. After about 24 minutes into the programme, the phone rang and after 1 very chilling minute, my mum came to the hall and told me that my grandma actually passed away.

For a moment, my brain just shut down and I became momentarily immobile. Half of me felt sad and the other half ironically happy. Now you may go all prissy on me for being an evil grandson. But the thing is, I grew up where my mum told me about the screwed up past and my dad telling me about all the s*** that happened. Everytime when we went to visit her, there was always a squabble that will lead to a major fight between my parents. Some fights were so bad that my mum has left the house many times and my dad has to go find her. Sometimes, when me and my sister went to visit her, she would treat the other cousins more better than she treated us. So growing up in such an environment, you cannot blame me when I tell that I do not have any grandparents during Civics or Moral Ed.

So the preparations for the Pongol were cancelled and my parents left for the funeral. I did not want to go cause I just did not feel right. So ended up leaving for a jamming session to clear up everything in my head.

Day 04 : 15th January 2007 aka. The Funeral.

Went down to Admiralty with my sister and bro-in-law. The three of us were pretty much indifferent the whole day. The funeral was filled with the usual crying and family squabbles. Apparently, my eldest uncle got so bummed out that he refused to attend the actual day of the funeral leaving my father (being the second in the line) to do the rites.

I felt so angry when I looked at the body. She was just laying there cold and white. I had no idea why I felt so much anger in me. Was it because she treated my parents like trash or was it that I never experienced love from a grandparent. I felt so distant to her and the rest of my relatives that I remained quiet even when we went to the crematorium. Seeing my cousin wail and cry, I felt weird and somewhat sad that I can never, or make that will never, experience what she experienced in her life. After coming back from Mandai, I suddenly felt so emotional that I spaced out into the distance. Luckily my cousins, Joycelyn and Claire came & talked. It was a weird bonding session but I am sure that it was the first step to the end of a long enmity.

Day 05 : 16th January 2007 aka. Cow Day !

According to Hindu beliefs, the third day of the Pongal Celebration aka The Harvest Festival, is dedicated to the cows cause of all the hard work they do in the fields. My family could not celebrate it though cause we just had a funeral, but some of our relatives decided to pay us a visit. So I ended up speaking in tamil and learning about the crazy customs they do in India.

Day 06 : 17th January 2007 aka. The Orientation

Today was the day of my orientation, where we learnt the rules & regulations of the new school and some of the expectations they expected of us and we supposed to have of them. Being from a government school all my life, some of the rules were a lil surprising to me. It was kind of hilarious that some of my classmates were smokers and underage... and they still admitted that they smoked. Overall, it was a weird experience and I was relieved that there were no more rounds of Wacko involved in this orientation.

I think I am gonna like it here. Studying in the city has always been my dream, but definitely not in such circumstances. It is gonna be hard for me getting used to the lifestyle of a private school student, having short school hours and having Long John Silver's just next door. But all I need to worry about now is scoring that O' Level Certifcate at the end of this year, which has always been one of the main worry of any Youth out there living in Singapore.

Day 07 : 18th January 2007 aka. The Rise Of The Chair

Chairs have always been the butt of jokes, you know the instruments where we place our butts on to relax. We rarely give it any consideration even when using the word 'Chairman' to call a higher authority personnel. Therefore, 100 chairs in Singapore have banded together to pull off a revolution where their aim is to make us humans bid for them for the good of humanity and chair-ity.

As a result, me and some other humans have also joined together to help publicise this historic event and make it a success. We went down to the *scape Youth Centre, where we made placards and publicity materials to pull other human beings into the aura that is of the chairs.

We are doing this to raise awareness for the cause of increasing respect for our dear chairs. Cause without them, we have no place to place our lazy bums.

Actually, the 100 Chairs event is on the 3rd February at *scape, just beside Orchard Cineleisure. You can also find out more at 100chairs.youth.sg.

It is a fully youth-run project supported by Youth.Sg & *scape and all proceeds of the the auction of the chairs will go to the Singapore Children's Society. So it is a good and enriching event to support. I will post photos and more insider info about the event in this blog in the upcoming days.
